The problem
A classroom window at a school in Lilliput had been completely smashed, believed to have been caused by a stray stone. As a toughened safety pane, the glass had shattered across the whole unit, leaving the window unusable and needing urgent attention.

The assessment
On the first visit, the priority was to make the window safe.
The damaged sealed unit was measured accurately so a like-for-like replacement could be ordered. The replacement was specified as an A-rated toughened safety glass sealed unit, with soft coat Low-E glass, a warm edge spacer bar and argon gas, matching the required specification for the window.
The existing frame was still serviceable, so the repair could be completed by replacing the sealed unit rather than replacing the whole window.
The repair
The shattered unit was made safe on the first visit.
A replacement sealed unit was then ordered to the measurements taken. Five days later, the new unit was fitted on a second visit. The damaged unit was removed, the replacement glass was installed securely into the existing frame, and the area was cleaned down afterwards.
The result
The classroom window was restored with a new A-rated toughened sealed unit, fitted securely into the existing frame.
For the school, this meant the window was dealt with quickly, classroom disruption was kept to a minimum, and the existing frame could remain in use without the cost and waste of full replacement.
